Completion Date February 2020
Location Clark County, Nevada
Completed by Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc.

Sturgeon Electric completed work on the 60-mile Harry Allen to El Dorado 500kV Transmission Line, traverses Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Bureau of Reclamation property to connect NV Energy’s Harry Allen Substation with Southern California Edison Eldorado Substation. Crews assembled, erected, and set 39 self-supporting lattice towers, 19 self-supporting tubular structures, and 115 lattice guyed vee tangent structures.

They also built all roads, landings, and pads; poured foundations; installed anchors; assembled several lattice towers; and pulled triple-bundle wire over multiple crossings in the highly crowded corridor dominated by broken, rocky, and uneven terrain. Additionally, they pulled triple-bundle 1590 ACSR conductor with OPGW in static position, over multiple high-voltage utility crossings in the highly-crowded utility corridor dominated by broken, rocky, and uneven terrain. Approximately 17 miles of the conductor on this project was attached to the vacant side of an existing NVE line.

This entire project was built on BLM property and was under the guidance of an established POD with stringent environmental restrictions. To address environmental concerns, Sturgeon Electric removed all protected vegetation, placed the plants in right-of-way nurseries, and then transplanted them back to their original sites during the restoration phase.

All material was procured by Sturgeon.
